Gathering with Andrew Beath : May 21st

“Andrew Beath’s The New Creation Story is in the great tradition of Thomas Berry’s Universe Story. It is a terrific book that describes a new, more accurate, and more hopeful story of humankind on its evolutionary journey. It is practical philosophy that gives a context for reflection and action.”
– David Orr, Oberlin Distinguished Professor and environmental sustainability

Dear Friends,

We’re meeting again Sunday May 21st. Our gathering day is still a little off the full moon cycle; In deference, closer to the full moon, Sunday the 14th is Mother’s Day, so, let’s extend Mother’s Day to Mother Earth Day and meet the following Sunday, on May 21st. Please share this with those who might be interested. It would be good to see you on Sunday; and bring some people, if you’d like. We’ll have fun.

For those who have been to a “book reading” for The New Creation Story, you will find this gathering to be different. The intention is to build community around the relational principles found in the New Creation trilogy, which is subtitled: Spirit, Eros and Climate Chaos.

There will be a presentation to describe the context in which we find ourselves immersed, in addition to a twenty minute reading from The New Creation Story, and interactive questions pertaining to the human condition: who are we, where did we come from, what are our current planet-threatening challenges, and how we might heal the wounds that this emergency is causing.

Please bring some “finger food” to share with others, but there will not be a full meal so we will officially end before dinner; our time together will include opportunities to visit with each other and enjoy the ocean air, the sunset and the moon rise. We have lots of room, so please bring a friend or two, and feel free to forward this invitation to others.

Beauty, Love and Courage,
Andrew Beath for EarthWays

Dear Friends,
Our next gathering will be April 23rd, the day after Earth Day; we’ll make this meeting an ongoing Earth Day celebration! at my family house, also the home of EarthWays Foundation—that we call the Malibu Pueblo. We will gather at 6pm, now that the days are longer and we have more daylight.

Yes, Earth Day is here, notwithstanding our cultural sleepwalking toward the cliff’s edge.  Who are we—we humans—not in regard to each other, but in relationship with the Earth and all living things? When we finally come to know these profound connections, we will resolve the daunting challenges that confront us and endanger our kids. This is the circumstance that we will consider together.

“A bold and brilliant analysis of the human story set against the predicament of climate change. Beath strikes at the heart (exposes the pain) of our cultural paralysis, explores the root causes and skillfully describes the way to a responsible and enlightened future. I can genuinely say how very good it is, and how particularly poignant it was to read it after the Climate March in NYC—in the context of the ever-present question of what will become of us, what should we do?”

“Beath has written a thoughtful, passionate history of The Planet, The Human Species, and, basically, The Future, where we are now, and where may be headed. It’s both an easy-going and a stunning read, one of these profound books that seemingly come out of nowhere. One of the best reads in a long time, and couldn’t be more timely.”

th at my family house, also the home of EarthWays Foundation—that we call the Malibu Pueblo. We will gather at 6pm, now that the days are getting longer and we have more daylight.

Yes, the full moon will still be full notwithstanding political, and most corporate, sleepwalking toward the cliff’s edge.  Who are we—we humans—not in regard to each other, but in relationship with the Earth and all living things? This healing is personal, including one’s physical body, emotional wellbeing, one’s psyche and one’s spiritual connection; it is also relational and cultural, thus the term Eros in the subtitle—affecting each individual, as well as the tiniest particle and the grandest galaxy. We can help one another to heal, and thereby start to heal our culture and our planet.

Earthways Gala Wednesday October 5th, 2016

Earthways Gala Wednesday October 5th, 2016

Dear EarthWays’ friends,

As some of you know, Atossa Soltani started Amazon Watch as a project of EarthWays 20 years ago, right here at the EarthWays offices on Rockport Way in Malibu. Atossa and I are the only two original members who have continued on the board for the full 20 years.

After the first few years Amazon Watch outgrew EarthWays, became independent, and is now perhaps the most effective rainforest activist group for its size–anywhere. Their hard-found funding is used carefully and efficiently; I know because I’ve overseen the budgets for much of my board tenure.

So, we’re having a 20 year celebration, combined with a fundraiser on Wednesday, October 5th in San Francisco. Lots of fun. I wouldn’t miss it; and I’d love to see you join me there. Of course, you can also buy a ticket just to support us, in case you can’t come.

Beauty, Love and Courage,

-Andrew

Dear Friends,

As Summer wanes we continue our series of gatherings at my family house, also the home of EarthWays Foundation—the Malibu Pueblo. For those who have been to a “book reading” for The New Creation Story, you will find this gathering to be different. The intention is to build community around the relational principles found in the New Creation trilogy, which is subtitled: Spirit, Eros and Climate Chaos.

This healing is personal, including one’s physical body, emotional wellbeing, one’s psyche and one’s spiritual connection; it is also relational and cultural, thus the term Eros in the subtitle—universal attraction affecting each individual, as well as the tiniest particle and the grandest galaxy. Our objective in being together is to help heal one another, our culture and our planet Earth.

There is no charge or required donation. The 11th is an almost-full moon, as has been our short tradition—magnificent to see and appreciate from our Malibu perch.
