Stories
of Interconnection
Voice of the Amazonian Rain Forest is a documentary
about the stories, myths and songs of the shaman Don Ignacio
Duri of Tambopata, Peru, one of a few remaining keepers of
a cultural and ecological heritage on the verge of extinction.
Contained in these stories is
knowledge about animal behaviour and medicinal plants that
for thousands of years has sustained both the local ecosystem
and welfare of indigenous society, and more recently contributed
to modern medicine. Until now this legacy has been entrusted
only to selected apprentices, but Don Ignacio has offered
to impart them to us before he dies.
In this documentary the myths,
the soul, and the profound inheritance of the tropical Andean
shamanic tradition survive. Shamanism, like evolution itself,
is a dynamic phenomenon that must adapt to an ever transforming
landscape. Change is inevitable, but the power to tell a story
lives on.
This rare opportunity to document
- a world distant from ours in every sense of the word - safeguards
a body of knowledge that furthers medical research and is
an essential component in preserving biodiversity and ultimately
the Earth and humanity's continued existence.
