The
Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs (S.E.E.) Program
was created in September 1994 as an affiliate of EarthWays.
S.E.E.'s mission is to foster social and environmental justice
in the following program areas: 1) Education; 2) Community
Affairs; 3) Local and International Social Justice; 4) Animal
Rights; 5) Environmental Preservation and Deep Ecology; 6)
Peace, Justice, and Tolerance.
SEE is designed to make activism easier by removing the obstacles
which often bog down project directors, their staff, and volunteers.
If a project fits our objectives (social justice, art &
educational, environmental, and consious activism), S.E.E.
can provide financial and administrative advice as
well as a tax-exempt home enabling you to "start
up" your project immediately.
S.E.E.'s activities range from one-person volunteer efforts
to large scale operations and can be short term or ongoing
in duration. Starting a project in the field requires significant
focus for any size organization. Becoming a S.E.E. project
spares activists the time, cost and headaches associated with
securing charitable status and creating accounting and other
administrative structures. The arrangement allows project
directors and staff to do what they do best - operate their
programs and raise money for their grassroots efforts. Each
member group will contribute to the general operating expenses
and participate in board-level decisions. This shared decision-making
process gives the groups equal say in the policies and procedures
of the S.E.E. program, making it a collaborative effort.
In addition to providing needed services at the shared cost,
S.E.E. is also an important network for social and environmental
activists. Small projects often become isolated and work in
relative obscurity. S.E.E. member groups benefit from the
cross-pollination and mutual support that S.E.E. provides.
In a broader context, the S.E.E. concept is a model to bridge
the work of diverse projects; all are components of an intimately
intertwined global effort to improve the way humans relate
to the living planet, to animals, to plants and habitats,
and to each other.
S.E.E. will not raise funds for the groups, nor are we equipped
to offer grant-writing services; however, our staff is available
for advice and guidance.
